Senior Harper Adams lecturer to serve on Commonwealth Scholarship Commission
10 March 2023

A senior Harper Adams academic is to serve on the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) as an Academic Advisor.
The role is the latest in the career of Senior Lecturer in Agri-food Marketing, Food Marketing, Food Security and Sustainability, Luis de Aguiar, who has worked across industry, government and academia.
The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) develops scholarships to support innovators and leaders of the future from Commonwealth countries. These Scholarships are offered under six development themes:
- Science and technology for development
- Strengthening health systems and capacity
- Promoting global prosperity
- Strengthening global peace, security and governance
- Strengthening resilience and response to crises
- Access, inclusion and opportunity
Successful candidates are chosen on their merit and the commitment they demonstrate towards the development back in their original countries.
Luis, who is originally from Brazil, has held a range of industry positions in food industry companies as well as working for the UK Foreign Office and British Council, the Japanese Foreign Ministry, and in a series of teaching training and consultancy roles across the globe.
He said: “I am very happy to be able to contribute as an Academic Advisor for such a prestigious and relevant organisation.
“This is because, many moons ago, I was recipient of a Chevening Scholarship, and later, I also became an Academic Advisor for that programme.
“Having been through a very similar process, I know, first-hand how to best manage expectations from both the organisation and the candidates' perspective.
“I am also glad that, through my appointment, Harper Adams University has been recognised for its excellence in the agribusiness sector overseas.”
